Surface Functions as Desired
2-component inmold production system
2-component inmold production system
Plastics components with defined surface properties are now possible thanks to the patent 2-component inmold production system by Panadur GmbH in Halberstadt, Germany. The parts are produced and coated at the same time, in the open or closed mold. Nano particles or carbon nanotubes give the surfaces, for instance, a decorative or scratch-proof function. The coatings are based on polyurea, and can also be given antibacterial, sound-insulating, UV-resistant or flame retardant properties. In a modular system, several steps are carried out to produce nano particles according to specific recipes for the respective purpose and properties, in a solvent-free varnish. The user mixes the 2-component system on site.

Special high-pressure spraying prevents atomizing, which steps up material utilization from 35 to 85 %. Requiring no separate drying process, the material hardens at room temperature within seconds. No nano particles can be set free, nor during production or use, neither during recycling. The German Hohenstein Institute has testified biosafety and antibacterial effect for the nano coating system.

The liquid two-component material is suitable for components starting from a quarter of a square meter’s size. Most of all large moldings, e.g. for trucks or boats, airplanes or agricultural machines, medical devices or wind power plants, can easily be produced this way. This technique is suitable to be used with any type of process, i.e. injection molding, casting, compression molding or foaming. Industrial partners, such as KraussMaffei Technologies GmbH in Munich, Germany, and a large number of specialized medium-sized companies, make use of it today.
